The finale of the Baroque style and the birth of Neoclassicism, both in architecture, painting, sculpture and the decorative arts; from curved lines and heavy ornamentation to clean straight lines. Neoclassicism developed partly on the basis of the philosopher and writer Jean-Jacques Rousseaus’s call for natural virtue and honest sentiment.
